Stories of Australia 2010--A 5-part wildlife documentary

Set in the tropical ecosystems of Queensland, Australia—this 5-part wildlife documentary explores the biology of some of Australia’s most common inhabitants. Filmed on location by College of Idaho biology/environmental studies students during Winter Term 2010. Film #1: A Lizard’s Tale. 6min 39sec. Trek along with a group of College of Idaho students as they search for Australia’s largest skink (a type of lizard). Written, produced, and directed by Claire Deters, Sam Finch, Emma George, Kate Leadbetter, and Paul Sartin. Film #2: The Strangler Fig: A Tree of Life and Death. 6min 31sec. Discover the fascinating world of the parasitic Strangler Fig. Written, produced, and directed by Tracy Diaz, Brenden Hoffmann, Janelle Jensen, and Stella Selden. Film #3: Red-necked Pademelons: Where Structure Meets Function. 4min. Examine those attributes of the red-necked pademelon that make this marsupial a successful member of the rainforest community. Learn about the biology of one of Australia’s most common (and least-loved) birds. Written, produced, and directed by Ashlee Byrnes, Rebekah Chace, Kara McCutchen, and Hayley Talboy. Film #5: Heron Island: Beyond the Tides. 7min 30sec. Explore the extraordinary relationships between species and their tropical island environment.
