A series of heterobimetallic Bi/Mo and Bi/W coordination complexes have been produced using a two-step, bottom-up synthetic approach. The complexes bear structural and bonding parameters reminiscent of the SOHIO oxidation catalyst and may serve as viable molecular models to probe the functioning of these materials.
