A recent study found that people who claim to be proficient multi-taskers and engage in several types of media simultaneously performed worse than low multitasking individuals on a measure of task switching We will attempt to replicate these findings at the College of Idaho as well as adding a measure of fluid intelligence and working memory to our study. We are identifying Heavy Media Multi-taskers (HMM) and Light Media Multi-taskers (LMM) via the Media Use Questionnaire and the Media Multi-tasking Index (MMI) (Ophir et al. 2009). Students will report how frequently they use television, internet, text messaging etc. in general and in conjunction. Participants that score one standard deviation above the mean will be categorized as HMMs and those who are one standard deviation below the mean as LMMs (Ophir et al. 2009). We are currently collecting data. Faculty Sponsor: Dr. Meredith Minear
