Course Schedule
Gender Studies Minor: The study of gender (including sex and
sexuality) has become increasingly influential in academic fields as
diverse as biology, literature, business, social science, and philosophy.
This multi-disciplinary minor allows students and professors to link these
various perspectives on gender and the effects of gender in their studies.
As students will have different majors and guiding interests, the minor is
intentionally flexible in its structure.
The minor consists of at least 20 credits, twelve of which must be upper
division. Required course work includes: GS101, Introduction to Gender
Studies, capstone paper to be completed in conjunction with GS 494 or 497
(two to three credits and supervised by at least two instructors in two
different disciplines), 15 credits from the courses listed below in at least
three disciplines:

GS 101 Introduction to Gender Studies 3.0 cr.
This course introduces basic gender issues and concepts through
readings, discussion, research and listening to guest speakers from a
variety of academic and professional fields.
GS 294 Independent Study 1.0 to 3.0 cr.
Fall, winter, spring. Prereq.: permission. Individual research
including selected reading and assigned writings. This course does not
fulfill the general graduation requirement for independent work. See
independent study guidelines.
GS 399-499 Readings in Gender Studies 1.0 to 3.0 cr.
Fall, winter, spring. Prereq.: permission. Directed readings in gender
studies on a topic selected by the student, to be evaluated by quizzes,
examinations, journal and/or papers as agreed upon with the instructor.
This course does not fulfill the general graduation requirement for
independent work.
GS 494 Independent Study 1.0 to 3.0 cr.
Fall, winter, spring. Prereq.: permission. Research in gender issues
for qualified students. See independent study guidelines.

GS-497 Internship 1.0 to 3.0 cr.
Fall, winter, spring. Prereq.: permission. Supervised work and study
or research in an organization or agency with approval of the gender
