Something Out of Nothing; The Method Behind the Choreography of Crazy for You.

Author(s): Victoria Hess

Presentation: performance

In 1992 the new Gershwin musical, Crazy for You, won a Tony award for best musical. More than a decade later, Crazy for You remains one of the most beloved musicals by audiences everywhere. The College of Idaho performed the show during in March 2010, featuring an alumnus as the director and a student as the choreographer. What this presentation entails is the methodology I used when choreographing the musical. The presentation will detail the stylizations used for the dance and how I modernized them for audiences today. Furthermore I will detail the challenges of choreographing for mostly non-dancers as well as approaching the show with no choreographing experience at all. A performance of one of the dance numbers will be given after the presentation, followed by a question and answer session.
