Astrometry and Photometry of Asteroid 369 Aeria

Author(s): Derek Tropf , Emanuil Yanev

Presentation: poster

Asteroid 369 Aeria was observed on the night of April 28, 2008 using the 0.35 m robotic telescope at The College of Idaho Observatory. The coordinates of the asteroid were obtained by conducting astrometry on two frames separated by 4469 seconds. Astrometric measurements find a proper motion of 0.007 arcsec/sec. Combining our measurement with the known distance to 369 Aeria on that night yields a tangential velocity of 14 km/sec. Photometric measurements show some variation in brightness—however, the variation does not seem significant enough to be caused by the tumbling of the asteroid.
