My strong admiration for drawing derives from my desire to recreate the real beauty in this world I am fortunate to see. My preferred drawing medium consists of charcoal, pen, and pencil on paper. I enjoy the concept of using natural media, materials created from the Earth to recreate images that reveal life. Hyperrealist artist Paul Cadden and his works on portraits are of great influence to my own drawings. By incorporating film and drawings together, I am able to create visual illusions of reality. Initially the video may appear to be more real because it depicts real images and movement. However after further review, one may discover that the drawing itself is more present since the video is simply a projection of an image. By working with faces, I allude to the idea of life and what it presents in its natural state.
