Sex and Personality

Author(s): Stacey Kerr , Alexandra Knoblock

Presentation: poster

Sexual aggression is defined as any sexual act that occurs against an individual’s will. Studies have shown that sexual aggression is especially prevalent on college campuses. The purpose of our study is to determine if higher levels of aggression will correlate with more aggressive sexual behavior, including sexual assault. To this end, we used Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire, Long Form Sexual Experiences Survey for Perpetrators, Adversarial Sexual Beliefs Scale, Acceptance of Interpersonal Violence, and the Rape Myth Acceptance Scale. We have recruited 85 participants so far, and data collection is ongoing. Several correlations were found between participants who were more aggressive in general and those who had stronger sexually aggressive attitudes. A strong correlation was also found between the acceptance of rape myths and the perpetration of sexually aggressive and coercive behaviors.
