U.S.-Cuban Relationship, a Unique Western Proxy War Since 1959 the U.S.-Cuban relationship has been confusing, conflicting, and interesting! Through time, much speculation has gone into the “why” of the U.S. dominance over Cuba. In my work I propose the United States is using Cuba as a proxy war to exhort its dominance as an example to the rest of Latin America. Using literature of historical and current context I discuss the characteristics of this unique power struggle between countries. After a strong historical and evidential foundation I conclude the U.S. is carrying on a 50+ year old proxy war as a warning to the rest of Latin America as a demonstration of power. (this presentation would be presented in Spanish).
