Effects of Age Differences in Relationships

Author(s): Paloma Magana

Presentation: poster

I am looking at heterosexual couples that have significant differences in age and see how their age difference has affected the relationship. Skentelbery and Fowler (2016) explain that men prefer increasingly younger women while women prefer men that are older, even if it is 10 years older their senior. For this study, the age gap that is considerate a significant difference is three years. I am taking a qualitative approach and interviewing couples to get their personal experiences. I will also be interviewing the couples together. Having the dyadic couple together will allow the researcher to collect more data since it is hearing from both individuals in the relationship (Morgan, Carder & Hoffman, 2013). Data collection is currently ongoing. Interviews will be audio recorded and notes on body language will be collected. Interviews will be transcribed and analyzed using thematic content analysis.
