HSC-499 Health Science Seminar 2.0 to 3 cr.

Prereq.: Health Science Major and senior standing or permission. An integration and synthesis of different disciplinary perspectives as they relate to specific regional, national, or world health issues. Students will bring to the seminar their expertise from their disciplinary foci, read about, discuss, and analyze health care issues, and learn from people working in the health care industry. Topics will vary. See course listed below.

HSC-499.01 Health Science Seminar: Health & Healing/Obesity 3.0 cr.

Spring 2007. Prereq.: Health Science Major and senior standing or permission. The focus for the Spring, 2007 seminar is epidemic obesity. Obesity is a current issue that includes political, economic, psychological, genetic, physiological, biochemical and medical dimensions. Readings from the scientific literature will include the New England Journal of Medicine (specialty journals), from journalism (Harper's and New Yorker), and from works of fiction.
