Hazing

College Policy Regarding Hazing

The Albertson College hazing policy is in accordance with laws of the State of Idaho. Student organizations and individual students found in violation of Idaho hazing laws will be subject to college disciplinary action.

In accordance with Title 18, Chapter 9, Section 917 the Student Activities Office has developed the following procedures:

• At the time of registration, the officers of each student group, team or organization must receive a copy of the law and will be required to sign a statement acknowledging that such copy has been received, that a copy of this law shall be distributed to every member and prospective member of the organization, and that the group, team or organization understands and agrees to comply with the provisions of this law.
• This statement will be kept in the group, club, or organization’s permanent file in the Student Activities Office.
• The Student Activities Office will make available to each group, team, or organization as many copies of the law as necessary both when the group, team, or organization registers for the year and throughout the year as necessary to insure that the organization can comply with their responsibilities as outlined in Section 917 of this law.

Chapter 9 - ASSAULT AND BATTERY

18-917. HAZING.

1. No member of a fraternity, sorority or other living or social student organization organized or operating on or near a college or university campus for purposes of participating in student activities of the college or university, shall intentionally haze or conspire to haze any member, potential member or person pledged to be a member of the organization or of attaining any office of status therein.
2. As used in this section, "haze" means to subject a person to bodily danger or physical harm or a likelihood of bodily danger or physical harm, or to require, encourage, authorize or permit that the person be subjected to any of the following:
   1. Total or substantial nudity on the part of the person;
   2. Compelled ingestion of any substance by the person;
   3. Wearing or carrying of any obscene of physically burdensome article by the person;
   4. Physical assaults upon or offensive physical contact with the person;
   5. Participation by the person in boxing matches, excessive number of calisthenics, or other physical contests;
   6. Transportation and abandonment of the person;
   7. Confinement of the person to unreasonably small, unventilated,
      unsanitary or unlighted areas.
   8. Sleep deprivation; or,
   9. Assignment of pranks to be performed by the person.
3. Subsection (1) of this section does not apply to curricular activities or to athletic teams of or within the college or university.
4. A member of a fraternity, sorority or other student organization who personally violates any provision of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
