Oleksandr Tarasenko

Oleksandr Tarasenko

My name is Oleksandr Tarasenko, but usually, people call me Alex. I was born and raised in Ukraine. When I became 18 the UWC National Committee of Ukraine proposed me to go to a new facility of UWC in Armenia. The representative of the College of Idaho came to our campus in Armenia and from her description of the college, I fell in love with this place. When I became a student at the College of Idaho, I planned to graduate only with an International Political Economy degree, but one-day doctor Rosoff sat down with me for 3 hours to convince me to take Mathematics as a second major and I am more than grateful to him for doing that. This year I scored in the National Mathematic competition "Putnam" which considered to be a small achievement in the Math department.

My majors are not the only interest that I have in life. I have been doing boxing since I was 6. I got a various amount of victories in this sport; thus, I became the coach/president of the College of Idaho boxing club. I also participated in Idahoan boxing competitions. Music became a part of my life when I was 11. I became one of the main singers in the school. Singing was always interesting to me; thus, I became a singer of a music band when I was 18. Our band had an opportunity to perform at different events, but the main achievement was the song that I wrote which was popular back home. I also finished a music school on the guitar and singing. When I was 15, I joined a theatre troop in my city and had an opportunity to perform for one year. When I came to college, I auditioned to be a member of the improv club “Cabaret.” That is why one of my minors is Theatre. I am also a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity which allowed me to participate in fundraising events. During my senior year, I became an off-campus senator at the College of Idaho, and, with a joint effort, we managed to create positive changes to students’ life. I am also fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian and familiar with C++ and Python languages. This year I am graduating from the College of Idaho and I am grateful for an enormous amount of knowledge that I have received here. I am also grateful that Idaho has amazing people, because of who I can call this state as "IdaHome."
